After laying my 14 month old son down for the night, I decided to count the money in his piggy bank (which I know was at least $60 or more). I brought his bank out to the kitchen table and dumped it out. Imagine my surprise when all that came out was copper pennies. It seems that with one week left, before my sitter returns to school for the fall, she has decided to clean the piggy bank of her charge of all silver coins. I know there was at least $4 in quarters that I just put there on the 17th as it was money his grandmother gave him as well as $10 in toonies from his sister's bank. I might not have noticed if she just took SOME and left some behind, but come on take ALL of the silver, loonies and toonies??? You think I might not notice? I am just sick!!! To think this girl gave her Minister's name as a reference and she treated my son so well that she would steal money from an innocent baby. Lesson Learned! So for all parents out there, no matter how much you think you can trust your sitter....never....never.....ever.....have any money in your house alone with a babysitter.

Update: She was questioned by the police last night and admitted to stealing the money.

Bet SHE was surprised you called the police over that. Actually, I'm even more surprised that the police bothered to do anything, it was "only" 60$ and there was no B & E or anyone hurt or a weapon used.

Wow.. that was crazy! I am soooo glad i dont have to worry about that. I think that is great that you called the police.. Finally someone doing something about this stuff. We only seem to call when we see something "big" going on.. but these little theifs need to be punished too. I bet her parents were diaspointed.

It's good though to catch this early on, before it spirals into something worse. Since she is only a minor, it won't leave a record even if charged and she might learn that other's money isn't hers to touch. It might be enough to scare her straight so to speak.
